A Christmas Prequel

Sorry it's been so long since we have had an update. I don't have any good excuses. I'm just lazy. So here's what's been going on in the Horton household... We put up our Christmas tree weeks ago and have yet to put any gifts underneath it. We took the picture for our holiday greeting card and have yet to order it. I can't even be sure that it'll get out before the New Year. Do you see a trend here?

Lucy had a doctor's appointment for her two month immunizations last Thursday. I did better than I thought I would. She had to have four shots and one oral medication. Poor baby, the gauges on those needles are huge! She suffered from all of the side effects of the medicines too, diarrhea, fever, and all around crankiness which lasted for two days. The doctor and I also discussed some issues Lucy's been having as well. She seems to be on food strike during the day and wants to make up with it at the all night buffet. Good thing for me she's a sleep-eater. Apparently this isn't all too uncommon and as long as she's consistently gaining weight she should be fine. Which leads me up too her three month stats... weight 14 pounds 11 ounces (85%), length 24 and 1/2 inches (75%), head circumference 16 and 1/2 inches (55%).

Here she is after her doctor's appointment. She felt so crummy all day long and found it hard to fall asleep and stay asleep. She really looks as if she's concentrating. So sad.

I love her Bumbo chair. Definitely a good investment. As long as she's in front of the television or has a toy in front of her she's good for a solid ten minutes, and in mommy-time, that's nearly a half hour. It's amazing how fast I can get things done when I actually do them!

Papa Walter was a huge help last week. Lucy and I had to run a bunch of errands, including getting Mazda-girl inspected and renewing her tags at the DMV. He came along as baby entertainer and I was very grateful.

Happy Birthday!

Double the chin, double the fun...that's our motto!

Happy Birthday Charles and Happy 3 month Lucy! Although separated by a few years, Lucy and her dad both sport relatively the same hairstyle.

Good Friends

With Charles working it gets kind of lonely around here, so it is nice when I have some visitors. April and Alisha have been such good friends to me. They come see me and Lucy whenever they get the chance, and I so appreciate and look forward to their visits. Ted appreciates their visits as well, if that wasn't apparent enough... This last visit they brought Sarah with them along with takeout from Panda Express (yummy!). It was so much fun, even though Lucy doesn't look very happy in the pictures.
(Charles) If it gets too lonely, there is a vacuum cleaner and dust rag in the closet that can keep you company....the more you use them, the better the chance that they will come to life - kinda like the movie Beauty and the Beast - but so far I haven't heard a peep.
Just kidding

Grandparents

Lucy displaying her already abundant fondness for Star Trek (live long and prosper)...however, her Vulcan language skills could use some work.

We don't post enough pictures of Lucy with her Papa Walter and Grandma Boo and Grandma Penn and Great-Grandma Maly, so here they are. She loves spending time with them as well as with her cousins Maly, Alison, and Tiona.

summer in fall, big girl jacket, play friends, and a visit with great Auntie Norma and Uncle Ralph

Who me? (by the way, the camera adds ten pounds...mostly in the face - her dad experiences the same problems with cameras...which is why they can't be trusted)

Those legs are in there somewhere.

The weather in Kansas City has been crazy. 70s and 80s one week and 40s and 50s the next. This past Tuesday was super warm so we took advantage of it and wore a short sleeve shirt. It has the cutest butterfly collar and racerback (that you can't see). When she's sitting up she loves to play with her pant legs. She almost looks like she is doing a curtsy in the last picture. What a little lady!

On cooler days Lucy likes to chill in her denim jacket. She thinks it's pretty cool.

Lucy is my friend! Mine!

Wednesday in BFSG we let the babies play on their blankets. They're not quite big enough to move around so they end up staring at each other or sleeping. You can see which one Lucy opts for. That last picture was posed, but it was still cute considering they are boyfriend/girlfriend.

(Charles) - Too bad he will have to wait 18 more years to ask her out on a date.

Uncle Ralph, Auntie Norma, and Lucy. Little does Lucy know that she is in the presence of greatness. There are a few people in each family that really hold it together...my Auntie is one of them - she has always looked out for everybody and gone out of her way for family. Lucy would not have the dad she has today without them.

My what pretty nails you have!

Auntie has just the right touch.

Here is my Uncle Ralph telling Lucy about all of the fish he caught up at the lake....she is too young for me to let her know they are mostly falsehoods - but good stories anyway.

Auntie and Uncle Ralph live in Minnesota so we don't get to see them often enough. This was their first time meeting Lucy and I have to say I think that it went well. Lucy seemed very impressed. She really enjoyed their visit and wished that they could have stayed longer.

First Halloween

Winnie the Pooh
We weren't quite able to zip the costume up all the way...a little too much chin.

Me and my girl.

Lucy's first Halloween was completely uneventful. At 5:30Pm yesterday mom and dad made an emergency trip to Target to purchase Halloween candy. We got home and waited for the trick or treaters to make their way to our house. Guess how many trick or treaters we had? Absolutey NONE! I couldn't believe it. Now we have a gi-normous bowl of chocolate candy and no one to eat it. Happy Halloween.

Today Lucy and her pals in BFSG dressed up for our Fall Festival/Costume Party and boy were they cute. Preston was a Pea in the Pod with mom Jen, Rhyn was a very sleepy Pumpkin with mom Allison, Lucy was Winnie the Pooh, and Ethan was the Hulk with mom Lacey.

Sweet 06'

When Charles lived in Los Angeles, he drove a white Mazda Miata. Now he drives my maroon Mazda 626 (woh, woh, woh... here comes Debbie Downer!) In tribute to his lazy days, coasting in the California sun with the top down, his friends Matt and Susan made Lucy this uber-adorable onsie. Lucy can't wait until she can drive her own Miata!
(Charles) - Nothing like living vicariously through your seven week old daughter - look at how much fun she is having just wearing the shirt...imagine if she was actually driving one!

baby and mama

Lucy and I were bored this afternoon, so we decided to take some pictures. I still haven't mastered the one-armed shot yet, hence the off-center pictures.

Big Girl

Lucy's weight has not been an issue since about the second week after her birth. She has fattened up quite nicely. Today she weighed 11 lbs 5 oz. That's 3 lbs in one month! I think it went straight to her legs and cheeks. I love chubby babies. Here she is striking a pose in her papasan. She still hasn't decided if she likes it or not.

New Friend

Lucy made a new friend recently. His name is Preston and he was born on Labor Day... about a week younger than Lucy. She likes the younger men : ) Here they are napping in the same pose. Aren't they cute?

Dad and Lucy... can't you tell how much she loves the bottle?

Grandma Judy came to visit for a few days last week. Lucy loves her grandma!
